Cristina AcostaMS. CRISTINA ACOSTA
Cristina Acosta Art Studio

University of Oregon, B.F.A. Painting, 1988. Cristina Acosta is a vibrant and prolific artist whose lush, magical style conveys a sense of joyous spirit. She applies her artistic vision to a variety of mediums, receiving national acclaim for her artwork. Her artistry has been and is featured in a variety of books, magazines, museums and galleries. A life-long artist, Cristina has been working professionally since her teenage years. She is a classically trained painter and has created work in a variety of mediums. Her experience includes two years as an outdoor advertising billboard mural and letter artist, teaching art for five years at the college level and owning an artisan ceramic tile business for almost a decade, successfully placing her signature line of ceramic tiles with Ann Sacks Tile & Stone and selected Home Depot stores. She has illustrated a children's book (When Woman Became the Sea), written her own painting book (Paint Happy!), and continually writes and contributes to a variety of magazines, including a home decor column for Latina Style magazine. She also operates a business as an interior design color consultant for both residential and commercial spaces. [Fall 2008 - Spring 2011]

Cynthia currently serves as vice president/business development manager at Harbison-Mahony-Higgins Builders, a commercial general contractor based in Sacramento, CA. She has also worked as director of interior design at Erlich Rominger Architects in Sacramento, project manager and interior designer at Vitiello & Associates Architects in Sacramento, and space planner at Architecture One, Ltd. in Tucson, AZ. She is a board member for the Sacramento Area Commerce & Trade Organization and the Salvation Army Sacramento Advisory Board, and is a member of the Downtown Rotary. In 2004 she completed the Leadership California program, a yearlong program that engages accomplished women leaders in California in the exploration of a variety of issues and trends in the state. Arch., 1972.  Stewart is a member of the American Institute of Architects, NCARB, the American (CA, WA) Association of Homes & Services for Aging, the American Resort Developers Association, and the American Hotel & Lodging Association.  He is a past editor of the Oregon Architectural Research Bulletin and is a Kearns Award Winner. Andrew BeyerMR. ANDREW BEYER

University of Oregon, Executive MBA, 1998; Southern Oregon University, BS Art & Art Ed., 1979. Andrew Beyer has been building structures and solving construction problems most of his life. With 28 years of construction experience, he began in the field as a framer and finish carpenter. Eventually, he ran his own remodeling business and taught woodshop and sculpture to high school students and adults. Andrew joined Walsh Construction Co. in 2001. As Vice President, Andrew Beyer is responsible for overall project success, giving corporate support and being actively involved early in the project process and during contract negotiations. He is well versed in all aspects of day-to-day construction and general management. He has provided systems consulting to many nonprofit organizations, understands multiple constituent planning processes, and has held positions as owner representative and design/construction coordinator. He has seen the construction process from different points of view and is very adept at bringing different perspectives toward consensus. With an Executive MBA from the University of Oregon and a long-term dedication to high-quality performance, Andrew has managed through a diverse range of issues and is comfortable in many different venues, from boardrooms to job trailers. Loyola University Chicago Graduate School of Business, MBA; Loyola University, Chicago, BA. Kim joined Tandem Diabetes Care, Inc. in 2007 as President and CEO. He has more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry in marketing management, strategic planning, finance and sales. Before joining Tandem, he served as chairman, CEO and co-founder of Biosite Incorporated. Kim helped guide Biosite from a start-up company of four employees to a public company with $325 million in annual revenues and more than 1,200 employees at the time it was acquired by Inverness Medical Innovations in June 2007 for $1.9 billion. Biosite became the industry leader in identifying and developing novel new biomarkers and pioneered the use of B-type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) to diagnose and monitor patients with heart failure. Prior to forming Biosite, Kim held various finance, operations, research management, sales management, strategic planning and marketing positions with Baxter Healthcare, National Health Laboratories and Hybritech Incorporated. University of Oregon, B. Arch., 1984. Garth is a principal at CB|2 Architects & Construction. CB|2 provides architect led design-build solutions for private and community development projects. Garth was a managing partner at Curry Brandaw Architects & Contractors from 1999 to 2007, and was a partner from 1987 to 1999. Both companies are members of the U.S. Green Building Council and The Oregon Natural Step. Garth serves on the board of directors for the Salem Hospital Foundation, and was a board member for the YMCA. His firms have won a number of AIA, Builder’s Choice, and Community Design awards for projects throughout the U.S. and Canada. Special interests include real estate development, innovative senior housing, and encouraging the leadership of architects in the design-build process.

Alan BrightMR. ALAN BRIGHT

University of Oregon, B. Arch., 1984. Alan is a Design Principal at HOK’s San Francisco’s office and a member of HOK’s national Design Board. He brings over 25 years of experience in the design of major building projects in the United States, Europe and Asia. Recognized for excellence in design and leadership in sustainable buildings and communities, Alan has been responsible for some of HOK’s most complex and acclaimed buildings, including justice, laboratory, corporate, healthcare, aviation, museums and government facilities. Alan worked a number of years in HOK’s Hong Kong and Tokyo Office’s. While overseas he was on the design team for the Hong Kong International Airport master plan and the award winning Sendai International Airport. His design portfolio includes numerous award-winning projects. Recent accomplishments include State of California’s Franchise Tax Board LEED Silver and recipient of the California Council AIA Award for Excellence in Design and Sustainability; San Mateo County Forensic Laboratory, recipient of the national AIA Cote Award and Lab of the Year, Special Mention; East Contra Costa Courthouse and the Alameda County Justice Center, one of the first LEED Gold justice facilities in the country; and 621 Capitol Mall, Sacramento’s tallest high-rise and winner of the 2008 design award for best New Office Building in the Sacramento region. Alan has lectured at Stanford University’s College of Environmental Design. He has spoken on sustainable design issues at the PG&E Pacific Energy Center and Sacramento’s SMUD Energy Center and was featured in the televised series Green Building Design from the San Mateo County RecycleWorks program. John Carroll heads Carroll Investments, which owns and manages real estate exclusively in the Portland metropolitan area and focuses its resources on projects that fulfill the needs of Portland’s citizens. Drawing from a broad base of general real estate experience ranging from land planning to high-rise buildings, John has developed real estate for the past 30 years. In particular, he has devoted his attention to high-density, mixed-use housing, emphasizing the strong connection between public and private investments. Carroll also serves as Chairman of Portland Streetcar, Inc. Having been involved from the earliest vision of the Portland Streetcar effort, John has been instrumental in seeing it to fruition over the last 16 years. [Fall 2008 – Spring 2011]

Brad established Allied Works Architecture in 1994 after completing his studies and working in New York, Los Angeles and Switzerland.  Allied Works has been involved in such projects as the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing Arts in Dallas, the Seattle Art Museum expansion, and the design of the new Museum of Arts and Design in New York. Brad has been a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota, Rice University, the University of California at Berkeley, and the University of Oregon.  Since its inception, Allied Works has been awarded commissions throughout the United States and has received continued critical recognition for its work. University of Oregon, M.S. Public Affairs 1978; B.S. Political Science, 1966. John has recently retired as Chief Deputy Director of the L.A. County Dept. of Health Services, and is currently a Healthcare Consultant. At LADHS John managed all operations of the Department’s hospitals, clinics and other services, including P/L, human resources, information technology, patient services, government affairs/public policy, and regulatory compliance. LADHS provides medical services for more than 2 million individuals each year in a county of 9 million residents. John has also served in such roles as CEO of AllHealth, Regional Vice President of Catholic Healthcare West, President of UniHealth, and President and CEO of Martin Luther Hospital. He has served on the boards of a variety of organizations, including the California Hospital Association, Hospital Council of Southern California, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the American Hospital Association. Awards received include the ACHE Regent Award for both the creation of the San Luis Obispo/Colorado River chapter and for leadership in developing CalOptima, the California Hospital Association Award for developing CalOptima, and the Management Innovation of the Year award at the ACHE Congress. Herman D'HoogeMR. HERMAN D’HOOGE

University of Ghent, Belgium, M.S. Computer Science, 1977; M.S. Electrical Engineering, 1976. Herman is Innovation Strategist with Intel Research, responsible in part for bringing external innovations and innovation practices to Intel. Previously, he established a user-centered design and innovation competency chartered with bringing new end-user experiences to personal computing that are informed by real human needs and desires. This human-focused approach involves interdisciplinary teams of ethnographers, user researchers, human factors engineers, industrial designers, interaction designers, technologists and engineers for envisioning and defining future computing platforms and technologies. Herman joined Intel in 1981 and has held positions in technology research, development, platform architecture, industry evangelism, and management in areas ranging from multi-processor computer architectures, PC system architecture, operating systems, computer security, fault tolerance, distributed systems, computer-telephony integration, new users new uses applications research, and branded consumer products (smart toys, cameras, audio players). His professional interests are in understanding how technology can meaningfully impact people’s lives and how user-centered methods can be practically applied to inform technology innovation. Art is President of Venerable Group, Inc., and manager of subsidiaries Venerable Development, LLC and Venerable Properties, LLC. Founded in 1991, Venerable specializes in historic commercial redevelopment, new development, commercial leasing and sales, and property management. Art is Vice Chair of the Portland Historic Landmarks Commission and a member of many historic preservation organizations including Historic Preservation League of Oregon, Bosco-Milligan Foundation and National Trust for Historic Preservation. Venerable’s project, the Telegram Building, was named a national finalist for the J Timothy Anderson Award for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation, for the Most Innovative Adaptive Re-Use, presented by the National Housing and Rehabilitation Association. University of Oregon, B.S. Business Construction, Finance, 1978. Bob has been a construction and real estate executive for over 29 years. He is president of Fulton and Associates, a full service construction management and real estate development company operating in Nevada, Oregon and Northern California. Bob was founder and Chairman/CEO of R&H Construction Company, which was listed in the ENR 400 as one of the top 400 construction companies in the country and was awarded the Contractor of the Year Award by the Oregon Building Congress, as well as the Project of the Year Award by the Associated Builders and Contractors. He has served as a board member for the Associated General Contractors of America and the Associated Builders and Contractors. He has served as a national speaker and member of the YPO Construction Industry Roundtable and Peer Group, member of the World Presidents Organization, and member and chairman of the Young Presidents Organization, Evergreen Chapter.  His community involvement also includes service as a board member for the Oregon Sports Authority, High Desert Museum and National Championship Properties, LLC, as well as a council member for the Lundquist College of Business, and trustee for the UO Foundation. Tinker HatfieldMR. TINKER HATFIELD

University of Oregon, B.Arch., 1977. Tinker is the noted designer of Nike’s most popular and successful athletic shoes, including the now legendary Air Jordan XX3. While studying architecture at the University of Oregon, he was coached by the legendary Bill Bowerman, cofounder of Nike. He held the UO record in the pole vault and placed sixth in the 1976 Olympic Trials, but was forced to retire from his athletic career due to complications from an injury. Hatfield practiced architecture in Eugene until 1981 when he joined up with Nike to design offices, apparel showrooms, and Nike retail outlets. His current list of responsibilities includes developing a long-term strategy for design advancement at Nike and The Jordan brand. He is also working on the redevelopment of Nike Global retail stores and story telling, and continues with some top-secret design projects for college football uniforms and new athletic footwear ideas. Hatfield spearheaded the greening of the newest Air Jordan XX3 shoe. The company designed and manufactured it to reduce waste, use more environmentally friendly materials, and eliminate solvent-based glues. Tinker has collaborated on product design with a long list of celebrities including Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Spike Lee, and Sheryl Crow. In 2008, Tinker was the recipient of the UO School of Architecture & Allied Arts’ highest honor, the Ellis F. Lawrence Medal. In 1998, Fortune magazine named Hatfield one of the 100 Most Influential Designers of the century. In 1993, Tinker won an International Design Award for the Air Huarache. He was also named one of the 100 Most Influential People in the sports business by Sportstyle magazine in 1993 and 1996. Richard HooverMR. RICHARD HOOVER

Studied design at University of Oregon, 1980.  Richard is currently the Senior Visual Effects Supervisor at Sony Pictures Imageworks. Richard’s most recently completed project, Superman Returns, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.  Prior to his work at Sony Pictures Imageworks, Richard worked on a variety of feature films as a visual effects supervisor, including Armageddon, which was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Achievement in Visual Effects. He also directed the movie trailer for Total Recall, which won a Special Achievement Award for Visual Effects from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Richard has won several prestigious Clio awards and has been honored at film festivals in Cannes, New York, and Chicago. Richard began his career at Mid-Ocean Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, where he demonstrated a keen understanding of character and drama, as well as a mastery of cutting edge technology. Art is Vice President and Manager of KPFF’s Portland office, and a KPFF Consulting Engineers board member. He is a registered structural, civil or professional engineer in 27 states and two Canadian provinces. Building projects include the Wayne L. Morse Federal Courthouse in Eugene, Doernbecher Children's Hospital, the Mark O. Hatfield United States Courthouse, University of Oregon‘s William Knight School of Law, the Nike World Headquarters, the Oregon Convention Center, and Portland International Airport Terminal Expansions. He is an instructor for structures courses at the University of Oregon Portland program. He serves on the Architectural Foundation of Oregon Board of Directors, the Portland State University College of Engineering Advisory Board, the Board of Directors for the Engineering Technology Industry Council, and the Design Practices Committee for the Structural Engineering Institute. Erik KvarstenMR. ERIK KVARSTEN

University of Oregon, B.S. CSPA, 1982. Erik has been City Manager for the city of Gresham, Oregon since 1994. Prior to his appointment as Gresham’s City Manager, he served as Administrator for the City of Troutdale, Oregon. Erik recently joined the School of Architecture and Allied Arts’ PPPM Advisory Council. Erik is a second-generation UO graduate whose father, Wesley John Kvarsten, received his Bachelor in Landscape Architecture in 1953. Wesley’s thirty-five year career included service as director of the Mid-Valley Planning Council, the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments, and the Oregon Land Conservation and Development Commission. The Kvarsten Endowed Fund was established by friends and family to honor Wesley’s contributions as one of Oregon’s first comprehensive land use planners.  [Fall 2007 - Spring 2010]

Rhode Island School of Design, B.Arch., 1974; Lafayette College, B.A. Economics, 1967. Peter is chairman and founder of Corporate Design Foundation, and a management consultant. He has taught about design at business schools including Babson College, London Business School, and Boston University School of Management. For eight years he developed and was the director of the Design Management Institute (DMI). In 1985, he established Corporate Design Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life and effectiveness of organizations through design. The Foundation achieves this by conducting research, developing teaching material, working with business school faculty to introduce design into the business school curriculum and collaborating with business organizations such as MSI (Marketing Science Institute) and PDMA to add design related content to their programs. As a landscape architect, Doug has worked on a wide variety of projects, including Pioneer Courthouse Square, the Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial, the Portland City Hall renovation, and over 100 projects on higher education campuses across the West Coast. He has extensive experience in urban design, natural resource planning, parks and recreation planning, campus design, and public open space projects. Doug’s projects demonstrate his commitment to design excellence, the preservation of sensitive environmental areas, and stewardship of the natural landscape. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with architects, artists, historians, and interpretive consultants to provide practical and aesthetic design solutions. He has served on the board of directors for a variety of organizations, including Pearl Arts Foundation, the Regional Arts & Cultural Council, Riverbend Youth Center, Portland Parks Foundation, and the Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center. University of Oregon, B. L.Arch., 1976. Brian has engaged in real estate development in Oregon since 1976. His professional work has focused on urban design, planning and development. In 1980, Brian transitioned into public and corporate real estate finance and construction. With his wife and partner Nancy, a developer in her own right, he co-owned and operated Brian McCarl & Co. from 1990 to 2006. Brian McCarl & Co. was formed in 1990 to finance and construct high-density urban apartments, mixed-use, senior and affordable housing and investment grade real estate assets. Since the spring of 2006, Brian has been engaged as Vice President Acquisitions for Newland Communities, LLC, whose closed and current land acquisitions in progress exceed $150 million. His primary focus is on the acquisition, entitlement and feasibility analysis of large-scale master planned communities and mixed-use infill developments in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. He leads the Northwest Region’s Green Team and sustainable development efforts and is studying to become a LEED certified professional. Understanding design as a landscape architect and developer has given Brian a special interest in the history and urban form of cities in the U.S. and abroad. He has served on the board of directors for a variety of organizations including the Urban Land Institute, the Portland Business Alliance Housing Committee, and the City of Lake Oswego Redevelopment Agency. Awards received include the State of Oregon Housing and Community Services Innovative Housing Award, Pacific Tower Apartments, 2003 and WestShore Apartments, 1998; the American Society of Landscape Architects Distinguished Merit Award, RiverPlace, 1987; the AIA Merit Award, Pioneer Courthouse Square, 1981; and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Urban Development Award of Excellence, Thomas Mann Building, 1980. Paul MorrisMR. PAUL MORRIS, FASLA (Secretary/Treasurer)*

Harvard University, Graduate Certificate, Innovations in Planning and Development, 1987; University of Oregon, B. L.Arch., 1984. Paul is a registered landscape architect and public policy mediator.  He founded McKeever/Morris, Inc. in 1989 and oversaw strategic planning, business operations, and planning/design projects until merging with Parsons Brinkerhoff, in 1999. He formed PB PlaceMaking in Wash DC and served as managing principal over urban development projects worldwide until 2007.  Paul joined Cherokee Investment Partners, $2 billion private equity firm, where as VP he oversaw planning on projects throughout North America and Western Europe and served as company expert on sustainability.  He rejoined Parsons Brinckerhoff in 2009, serving as Executive VP, responsible for the global operation of all strategic consulting services (incl. land use/transportation/environmental planning, public finance, public policy and program management), corporate wide sustainability programs and other strategic urban regeneration initiatives.  Past achievements include economic revitalization plans for rural timber communities of the Pacific Northwest; inner-city redevelopment programs for Detroit, Washington, D.C., and New York City; and creation of the Oregon Garden and Oklahoma City National Memorial.  Paul was inducted into Who’s Who in America in 1999 and selected as Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1998. He has received 34 other citations, honors and awards including International Excellence on the Waterfront Honor Award; ASSHTO National Best Project of the Year Award; Office of the White House Excellence in Transportation Design Award; and USACE Commanding General’s Medal of Excellence.  Paul has taught at the university level and presented at over 100 conferences and symposia throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, including before the Congressional Black Caucus, National Design Forum of Israel and Millennium Discourse of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Paul has written, contributed to or been featured in over 150 publications on topics including: urban regeneration, transit & land use integration, sustainability, smart growth and civic design. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute, American Planning Association, Congress for The New Urbanism, National Trust for Historic Preservation, and American Society of Landscape Architects, where in 2003 he was national president.   [Fall 2006 – Spring 2012]

Linda has been with Huntsman Architectural Group for over 17 years, and has managed projects of all sizes for commercial interiors and tenant improvements and renovations. She also heads the firm's recruiting and hiring department.  Recent projects include California Bank & Trust, 25 retail branches throughout Northern CA; Actuate Corporation, new sales office, New York, NY; Actuate Corporation, corporate relocation, San Francisco, CA; and Bell Atlantic, renovation/relocation, Greenbrae, CA.  Huntsman Architectural Group is a full service design firm founded in 1981 and has grown to include over 50 architects, interior designers, technical and administrative staff. Michael ReedMR. MICHAEL D. REED

Ohio State University, B.F.A. Industrial Design, 1970. Michael is a Principal of Mayer/Reed’s visual communications group.  Collaboration with architects and landscape architects has resulted in a body of work acknowledged for eloquently extending the vision for a project into the building and site’s information systems. This portfolio includes the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Columbus Convention Center, and the Urban Marker interpretive project for Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade.  His work has been nationally recognized with design awards from the Society for Environmental Graphics Design, the American Society of Landscape Architects, and the Waterfront Center.  His design of the signage and graphics program for the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse received an Honor Award from the U.S. General Services Administration’s Design Excellence Program in 1998. University of Oregon, B. Arch., 1976.  Todd Sklar is Senior Vice President and Development Group Head of Shorenstein Realty Services, L.P. He is responsible for overseeing Shorenstein development activities nationwide including site evaluation, entitlement, design, construction, and initial tenant improvements. He is currently directing the development of more than 7 million square feet of new office and mixed use projects throughout the United States. Prior to joining Shorenstein, he was principal of architecture and development firm Mezzatesta*Sklar in San Francisco, California, during which time he planned the Martin Luther King Jr. library in San Jose, and developed the Gladstone Institutes, a medical research facility at Mission Bay. Mr. Sklar is licensed to practice architecture in California and New York. He is a member of AIA and ULI, and a former trustee of Live Oak School and The Jewish Museum of San Francisco. Slim is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Sommerwind Group, Inc., a corporation devoted to real estate investment development and property management. Sommerwind Group, Inc. owns The Ketchum Center, the largest commercial development in Ketchum-Sun Valley at 72,000 square feet, accommodating up to thirty different retailers and service practitioners. Sommerwind Group, Inc. also owns and operates a 27 plus acre fruit tree, shrub and flower farm on Orcas Island, WA, and apartments in Seattle and Palm Springs, CA. From 1972 to January 1, 1989, Slim served in the roles of marketing director and then president of Bayliner Marine Corporation, as well as vice president of the Brunswick Corporation from 1986-1988. He attained the rank of Lt. Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, and is active today serving the marine industry in a number of associations and organizations. He is also a member of the board of trustees for the U.S. Ski Team Foundation, where he served as president for five years. He is the current vice-chair/president-elect of the board of trustees for the University of Oregon Foundation, and a former board member of the Seattle Art Museum and Marker International. The AA is the UK’s oldest and only private school of architecture, which for decades has been recognized as an influential worldwide leader in architectural education. Brett also directs the AA Public Programmes, which each year organizes one of the world’s largest public programs dedicated to contemporary architectural culture. Brett is the founder and former Director of the AADRL Design Research Lab, the innovative team-based M.Arch program at the Architectural Association. He is a Partner of DAL, desArchLab, an architectural office in London, and has taught and lectured at schools throughout the world on contemporary architecture culture, design, urbanism and education. He is the editor of  ‘Negotiate My Boundary’, ‘Corporate Fields’, ‘D[R]L Research’, and ‘DRL R&D: Open Source Space’. He is Series Editor of AA Words; Critical Thinking in Contemporary Architecture. Brett’s articles, interviews and lectures have appeared in such journals as Arch+, Architecture Review, Harvard Design Magazine, World Architecture, and Japan Architect, as well as on CNN, the BBC and other media. A descendant of the influential Bengali poet and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore, he promotes East-West dialogue and understanding through his contributions to numerous exhibitions as well as his eponymous art galleries. He opened his flagship gallery in New York City in 2000, and early in 2008 opened branches in Beverly Hills and Hong Kong. Sundaram was born in Caluctta, India in 1961, and moved to North America in 1979 to attend the College of Wooster, in Wooster, Ohio, where he studied art history. In addition to completing a Master's degree in art history at the University of Oregon in 1987, he studied museology at the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, Italy, on a scholarship from the Italian Cultural Institute. He is a candidate for a Doctorate in Philosophy from University of Oxford, where he studied from 1989 to 1994. Sundaram was previously a director at Eduard Nakhamkin Galleries, a joint venture with the Russian Ministry of Culture, and at Pace Wildenstein Gallery, both in New York. He has also advised many international cultural organizations including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the United Nations; and the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. He has curated a host of art exhibitions including the Promise of Modernism: Art in India 1847-1947, held at Dialectica, New York. In 1999, he was nominated by Avenue magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Asian Americans in the United States. Sundaram has published articles in numerous magazines and newspapers, including ARTNews, Art & Antiques, Asian Art News, Arts Asia Pacific and the Times of India. He served as a juror for the 2002 UNESCO Design 21 competition and the Asian American Arts Center in New York. Sundaram has been profiled in many publications, including the South China Morning Post, the Financial Times, and Forbes, and was recently the subject of a 30-minute special interview on CNN International's Talk Asia. He is a member of the Foreign Student's Association at the University of Oregon, and was assistant director of the Association in 1986 and a recipient of the top foreign student award.  He is on the Board of the September Concerts, New York, and the founder and chairperson of the Tagore Foundation International. CA San Jose State University, B.S. Industrial Design, 1979. Sohrab is the founder and president of ZIBA Design. He directs projects for an extensive client list that includes McDonald’s, FedEx, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Nike and Sony. His work in product development includes consumer electronics, computers, medical instruments, household appliances, furniture, and fitness equipment. Sohrab was born in Tehran, Iran and moved to the United States in 1971. After receiving a degree from San Jose State University’s Department of Industrial Design in 1979, he launched ZIBA Design as a product development firm in 1984. The company has grown to be one of the largest international product design and development consultancies in the world, with offices in Portland, Munich, Tokyo and Taipei. BusinessWeek named Sohrab Entrepreneur of the Year in 1992, and also one of the Top Five Innovation Gurus in the U.S. in 2005. Sohrab was elected as a member of the World Technology Network in the area of design in 2000, and selected for membership in the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland in 1994.

Arch., 1972.  As Managing Principal of his own firm, Frank has developed a diverse portfolio that includes new construction, significant remodel, and tenant improvement projects.  These projects include extensive healthcare work for Kaiser Permanente, healthcare and university work for USC, City of Hope National Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, retail space for Nike, Inc., a screening room for HBO, and multiple projects for the City and County of Los Angeles. Frank has received numerous awards, including the American Institute of Architects Honor Award for Superior Achievement and Professional Excellence, the California Landscaping Honor Award, the American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award, and the Los Angeles Conservancy Preservation Award. He is a member of a number of organizations, such as the American Institute of Architects, the National Council of Architects Registration Boards, the City of Los Angeles Design Review Board for the Wilshire Corridor, and the Los Angeles Conservancy. Fleet Science Center and San Diego State University projects. He is a member of the Boston Society of Architects and chairs the BSA Housing Committee.  He serves on the Boston Mayor Thomas Menino Housing Advisory Panel and the Historic Neighborhoods Downtown Commission. He is a member of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Royal Institute of British Architects, the Royal Australian Institute of Architects, and the Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators. He is Founder and Chairman of Project Torch, which encourages donors to fund tertiary education for students from financially disadvantaged communities. Tony is also Vice Chairman of the Back to School Project, which provides financial support to primary school students in 56 poverty stricken counties through private sponsorship.

Cheryl ZahniserMS. CHERYL ZAHNISER

University of Oregon, BFA Painting, 1975. Cheryl has retired after 24 years at fashion specialty retailer, Nordstrom Corporation. She most recently served as Vice President Brand Creative Director (2000-2005), and Full Line Store Creative Director (1983-2000). In those positions responsibilities included corporate brand initiatives for in store, online and direct mail, creative direction for all marketing communications, signage, windows and in store presentations. Currently, Cheryl is active on the Board of Trustees of Pilchuck Glass School, serving as auction chair (2007 & 2008). Since leaving Nordstrom, Cheryl has renewed her interest in figurative painting, also studying with Tony Ryder, Steven Assael, Michael Grmaldi and Bo Bartlett, supporting her brother Ray Fujii’s operation of the 3rd generation berry farm, Fujii Farms, in Troutdale Oregon, as well as engaging in marketing consulting projects.
