A&AA Commencement - Congratulations Graduates!

Ellis F. Lawrence Award
The Ellis F. Lawrence Award, in the form of a bronze medal, is awarded each year to a living A&AA alumni whose professional and personal achievements embody the integrity, educational philosophy, and commitment to one’s chosen field as exemplified by Ellis F. Lawrence and established as tradition among the diverse disciplines of A&AA. Ellis F. Lawrence began his association with UO in 1914, first as a campus planner, then as founder of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. During his career, he designed five hundred commercial and residential buildings, including twenty-five buildings on campus. He was also the founding president of the Oregon Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and was often called the father of city planning in Oregon.

Commencement Day Details:
You must APPLY for Graduation on DuckWeb

Location:
The A&AA ceremony is TBA. Tickets are not needed for the ceremony.

Rain Plan:
If the University goes to the rain plan, then A&AA will as well. The announcement of a rain plan option will be made at 7:00 A.M. on Monday morning and will be broadcast on local radio stations. In the event of a rain plan, the A&AA ceremony will move to the covered tennis courts located behind the Student Recreation Center and Esslinger (see Campus Map G-3 to G-4). Tickets are not needed for the ceremony. The rain plan option is a smaller venue so please try to arrive early to ensure a seat.

Reception:
The A&AA ceremony will last two hours. Graduates and guests are invited to adjourn to the Lawrence Hall courtyard for a reception immediately following the ceremony.

Staging:
Candidates for graduation are asked to gather at the south entrance of Lawrence Hall, facing the intersection of 13th and University, immediately following the University ceremony. We ask that you assemble at the staging area quickly, so that our ceremony may begin as close to (TBA). as possible. If the University rain plan is active, please gather on the artificial turf practice field closest to E. 15th Avenue, just west of the Student Recreation Building.

A&AA's Dean Frances BronetProcessional:
Candidates are asked to assemble by department/program and line up double-file by degree (PhD, Masters, Bachelors). You do not need to be in alphabetical order. The order of procession will be arranged alphabetically by department/program. Signs will indicate where each department/program should gather.

Department heads/program directors will be at the staging area to distribute preprinted name cards. Please make any necessary changes on this card. Do so legibly as your name will be read aloud from this card.

Commencement marshals will assist at the staging area and help guide the processional. The A&AA flag bearer will lead the procession followed by the Lawrence Medalist.

Regalia:
Although formal regalia are not required, generally students are expected to wear caps and gowns for the ceremonies. PhD and Masters candidates must order their regalia from the University of Oregon Bookstore no later than May 15. Undergraduate candidates can purchase caps and gowns from the UO Bookstore anytime before the ceremony.

Announcements/Invitations:
Commencement announcements are available at the University Bookstore and should be ordered as soon as possible.

Seating in the shade (on the EMU lawn) is available on a first come-first seated basis. Please plan to be at the ceremony site as early as possible to secure shade seating.

There is drop-off access on 15th Avenue for guests who are unable to walk to the ceremony site.

Special Accomodations:
The Southeast lawn of the EMU is relatively flat and surrounded by sidewalks, which allows access for wheelchairs and/or persons with disabilities.

Sign language interpretation will be provided upon request two weeks or more ahead of time and alternative formats of the printed ceremony program can be requested by calling  at 346-3632 no later than Thursday, May 29.

If you are a graduating student who needs special accommodations, please contact the Office of Student Life at (541) 346-3216.

Parking:
Parking on or around campus on Saturday will be difficult. You may wish to suggest to your guests that they take the free EmX bus to campus or park at Autzen Stadium and make the one-mile walk across the Autzen footbridge.

Questions:
If you have other questions about the A&AA ceremony, please contact the Dean’s Office at 346-3632 or stop by 105 Lawrence Hall.
