The University of Oregon has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research, beginning with the establishment of the Institute of Molecular Biology in 1959. Much of the research conducted on the Oregon campus is based within the more than twenty-five interdisciplinary institutes and centers organized under the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies. Others are organized under deans, departments and programs. The university's interdisciplinary institutes and centers provide opportunities for research and graduate training in a wide variety of disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and a variety of technical fields.
