The Oregon Art Review is a biannual journal dedicated to publishing and sharing original research by graduate students. Founded and produced by graduate students in the Art History Department at the University of Oregon, this online journal provides a forum for presenting innovative research in the humanities, including art and architectural history, fine arts, historic preservation, and art and administration. An editorial board comprised of graduate students throughout these various disciplines will review all new submissions to the Oregon Art Review. Papers will be chosen based on the strength of ideas presented, clarity of writing, and contribution to the existing scholarship.

The Oregon Art Review is grateful for the generous support received from the Art History Department at the University of Oregon, as well as alumni and private donors.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

INITIAL MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

All papers must be submitted electronically. Initial manuscript submissions must include the following to be considered for publication:

  • Complete copy of your manuscript (including bibliography).
  • Abstract of 250 words or less
  • List of figures with a complete set of illustrations.
  • Current curricula vitae

Papers and abstracts should be double-spaced and all pages should be numbered. Papers must conform to the style guidelines of The Chicago Manual of Style (CMS). All papers should range between 4500 to 7000 words in length. In order to ensure blind readings from the editorial board, the author's name should not appear anywhere in the abstract or the manuscript.

Please see our CALL FOR PAPERS for submission deadlines and review schedule.

SUBMISSION OF ACCEPTED MANUSCRIPTS

Papers that are selected for publication will undergo multiple revisions during the editing process. Additional revisions are almost always necessary. Editors will suggest additional changes to content, format, and style. The first revised version of the manuscript should include the author's name on a separate line following the title as well as the author’s institutional affiliation at the end of the main text. Additional revisions may be necessary. The editing process usually takes several months.

Once a manuscript has been accepted for publication, the author must provide a biographical statement (fifty words or less). Authors are responsible for supplying images needed for illustrations and obtaining permissions to publish the images. This process can take a long time, and should begin as soon as the manuscript has been accepted for publication. Copies of the publishing permissions and captions are required and all images must be digitized (at least 600 dpi). Do not send original documentation of publishing permissions through the mail.
