Steve Wright, Bonneville Power Administration. BPA is a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Energy. BPA serves the Pacific Northwest through operating an extensive electricity transmission system and marketing wholesale electrical power at cost from federal dams, one non-federal nuclear plant and other nonfederal hydroelectric and wind energy generation facilities.

Steve Wright ('81). Steve is the CEO and Administrator of BPA. He graduated from Central Michigan University in 1979 with a B.A. in journalism and received his Masters Degree in Public Affairs (CSPA/PPPM) from the University of Oregon in 1981. Upon graduation, he began his career with Bonneville Power Administration where he has held various leadership posts and handled some of the region's greatest energy challenges.

Brian Skeahan, Cowlitz Public Utility District. Cowlitz PUD of Cowlitz County, WA (which includes the cities of Longview, Kelso, Lexington, etc.) provides electric service to 48,100 residential, commercial, industrial and street lighting customers countywide. The agency also provides water service to about 3,800 Longview-Kelso area customers.

Brian Skeahan ('81)). Brian is the General Manager of Cowlitz PUD. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science/public administration. He also received a Master's Degree in Public Affairs (CSPA/PPPM) from the University of Oregon. Upon graduation, Brian began his career in public utilities/energy, serving in various capacities at the Springfield (OR) Utility Board, City of Wahoo (NE), and the Klickitat County (WA) PUD.

Harold (Skip) Schick, Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. The NEEA is a non-profit organization working to encourage the development and adoption of energy-efficient products and services. The agency is supported by: the region's electric utilities, public benefits administrators, state governments, public interest groups and efficiency industry representatives. Their BetterBricks initiative works with businesses in the Northwest to benefit financially from responsible energy management.

Skip Schick ('78). Skip is NEEA'S Senior Manager and Director, BetterBricks initiative. Much like our other visitors, Skip completed a Public Affairs (CSPA/PPPM) degree at the University of Oregon and soon after began a long, distinguished career in energy/utilities organizations. Prior to joining the NEEA, he was a senior consultant with Barakat & Chamberlin, Inc (the nationally regarded energy and utility consulting firm) and a leader at Pacific Gas & Electric.

U.S. Cities are racially paradoxical; racial diversity is increasing and yet residential segregation persists and deepens for some groups in some cities. This lecture confronts these paradoxes by critically focusing on the notion of "racial mixing" at a variety of sites and spacial scales, ranging from multiracial bodies through mixed-race households to racially plural neighborhoods and metropolitan regions. "Diversity" and "mixing" are notions that problematically promise racial progress and economic growth while eliding the ongoing significance of racial divisions.

Moving Forward Together is a smart growth conference focusing on issues in Lane County, Oregon. The co-sponsors currently include the Oregon Transportation and Growth Management (TGM) program, Oregon and Lane County associations of realtors; the City of Eugene, Lane Transit District, and the Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management of the University of Oregon. John Fregonese is confirmed as the opening speaker. A series of panels with a mixture of local knowledge, statewide perspective and national expertise will be offered. The Planning, Public Policy and Management Department at the University of Oregon, in conjunction with the department's Advisory Council, presents the following awards in the spring of each year. Distinguished Alumnus, Distinguished Young Alumnus, Outstanding Service to Oregon, and the PPPM Outstanding Teacher of the Year. The event begins at 2:00 with graduate exit project poster presentations along with a wine and cheese bar; the awards presentation starts at 3:00 followed by a reception in the same room. Invited participants include all UO administration, all of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts, all PPPM department's alumni, faculty, students and staff, plus others by invitation. Invitation to the event may be requested from the PPPM Department. This year's award recipients are: Priscilla Gould, Executive Director of United Way of Lane County; Susan Anderson, Director of the City of Portland Office of Sustainable Development; and Geneva Wiki, Founding Director of the Klamath River Early College of the Redwoods.
