Scaling Diversity Racial Mixing Segregation and Urban America

U.S. Cities are racially paradoxical; racial diversity is increasing and yet residential segregation persists and deepens for some groups in some cities. This lecture confronts these paradoxes by critically focusing on the notion of "racial mixing" at a variety of sites and spacial scales, ranging from multiracial bodies through mixed-race households to racially plural neighborhoods and metropolitan regions. "Diversity" and "mixing" are notions that problematically promise racial progress and economic growth while eliding the ongoing significance of racial divisions.
