Development

The mission of the Office of Development is to assist the school in securing external funds to enhance educational opportunities, faculty support, research and creative work, and student scholarships.

Funds are raised through a combination of methods such as the UO Annual Giving Telefund and direct mail appeals, foundation and corporate grants, planned gifts, and direct personal solicitation.

Academic priorities for fundraising are the responsibility of the dean, with the advice and assistance of the department heads and directors, and are developed in cooperation with the UO Associate Vice President for Development. Specific annual goals are established by the dean and the AVP for Development.

The Office of Development works in concert with the university’s central Development office and the UO Foundation to raise new endowments for research, scholarships, faculty and teaching support.

The Office of Development concentrates their efforts to increase major gift solicitation, expand the base of donor prospects, and increase activity in donor cultivation and stewardship. Their areas of responsibility include:

  • Major gift and special gift fundraising
  • Identifying and cultivating future donors for the school
  • Working with UO’s Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations
  • Donor relations and donor stewardship programs
  • Gift processing, recording, and donor thanks and recognition
  • Working with UO’s Office of Gift Planning on estate gifts
  • Creating and working with volunteer groups supporting development efforts, including the A&AA Board of Visitors Development Committee
  • Coordinating with and providing information to the Annual Giving Program
  • Scholarship award coordination with A&AA departments
  • Coordinating fundraising and donor stewardship events
  • Assisting faculty members with clearance and approaches with private foundations and corporations for funded research
