Join us for the 2017 A&AA Commencement Ceremony
and the presentation of the Ellis F. Lawrence Medal
Monday, June 19, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.
Knight Library South Lawn

The first step to participate in commencement is to apply for your degree through DuckWeb if you are an undergraduate student. If you are a graduate student, apply on the Graduate School website.

If you won’t be graduating in Spring 2017, but will complete your degree either in Summer 2017 or Fall 2017, you are still eligible to participate in Commencement. You will need to fill out a Walk-Only form (available in your home department office starting March 31st) and return that form to the Dean’s Office.

The School of Architecture & Allied Arts Commencement ceremony is for both graduates and undergraduates.

The Duck Store will be hosting Grad Fair this year from April 10–13. This is a great place to take advantage of ordering all of your graduation items in one place. As a bonus there are lots of discounts to be found through this event. Check back to the Duck Store website for further details.

While not required, academic regalia (cap and gown) is suggested for commencement. Along with regalia, invitations can also be ordered from the University of Oregon Duck Store beginning on April 10.

Main University Commencement Ceremony

All students are eligible to participate in the main University ceremony on Monday, June 19, 2017. The University Graduation Celebration begins with an academic parade to the Matthew Knight Arena at 9:00 a.m. The UO Commencement website provides further details about this celebration.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jay Ferris in the Dean’s Office either by phone at 541-346-3631 or via email. Please check back to this website as it will be updated throughout the year with further Commencement related details.

Ellis F. Lawrence Medal

The Ellis F. Lawrence Medal is awarded each year to a living A&AA alumni whose professional and personal achievements embody the integrity, educational philosophy, and commitment to one’s chosen field as exemplified by Ellis F. Lawrence and established as tradition among the diverse disciplines of A&AA. Ellis F. Lawrence began his association with UO in 1914, first as a campus planner, then as founder of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. During his career, he designed five hundred commercial and residential buildings, including twenty-five buildings on campus. He was the founding president of the Oregon Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was often called the father of city planning in Oregon.

The 2017 Ellis F. Lawrence Medal will be presented to William Leddy, FAIA, and Marsha Maytum, FAIA at the A&AA Commencement ceremony. Read more about their work and dedication to environmental sustainability and social justice in the built environment.

Commencement Day Details:

The A&AA ceremony will occur on the south lawn of the Knight Library. We expect upwards of 2,000 guests and seating is limited. No tickets are necessary for guest seating. There is a ceremony on the lawn prior to ours; guests should not arrive earlier than 3:00 p.m. for seating.

Limited seating under a shade is available as a priority for ADA guests and secondly on an as-available basis. Please plan to be at the ceremony site as early as possible if you want to secure shaded seating. If you require shaded seating due to an ADA accommodation, please email Jay Ferris at your earliest convenience.

There is drop-off access for guests who are unable to walk to the ceremony site, or they can use the ADA-accessible shuttle service listed in the “Parking” section below.

Parking on or around campus on Monday will be difficult and generally unavailable. Free shuttle service is provided from the Autzen Stadium parking lot to the main campus. Before 10 a.m. shuttles will drop off on 13th Avenue in front of Matthew Knight Arena. After 10 a.m. shuttles will drop off both on 13th Avenue in front of Matthew Knight Arena and at the corner of 15th and University Street near the heart of campus. The shuttles will start running from Autzen Stadium at 7:00 a.m. and the last shuttle will leave campus at 8:45 p.m.
